These are working gardens. In
them, we cram plants we are testing. Some are new to us, and we’re
not even sure yet whether we’ll like them. Some are shade-tolerant
plants shoved into hot and sunny gardens to find out the kind of
abuse they will take. We try plants in various kinds of situations
and environments to see what they will stand, and how well they will
stand it. We don’t promise to always get it right.
In spring, when we’re busy
with the nursery; in hot and dry summers when we’re not as careful
about watering as we would wish to be, the gardens can look a little
shaggy. Just as they do in nature. But there’s always something
interesting growing. We invite you to stroll through our gardens
anytime we’re open.
New gardens are always in the
works, and visitors find it fun to watch them from the planning
stages through maturity.
