Large, showy, foxglove-like flowers on tall, thick spikes tower over spectacular foliage. The flowers are white with extensive purple veining and are nestled in dusky purple, spiny bracts from midsummer until late fall. The leaves are very large, and deep forest-green, with dramatically jagged edges and coarse, spiny teeth. In fact, their shape was utilized in the carved motifs used to decorate Corinthian columns. Plant them in rich, moist soil in sun to part shade. Bear's Breeches will take a while to establish, but are hardy here without fussing. We planted it about seven years ago and it just gets more and more beautiful every year. Highly recommended.
